Adding a layer of protection with Philips UV-C air disinfection

Lighting the way to the ‘new normal’

Pomme D’Api School, Madrid, Spain

Philips gave peace of mind to pupils, parents, and staff alike at Pomme D’Api school in Madrid through UV-C disinfection, creating a more secure interior environment without disturbing classroom dynamics.

The Philips UV-C air disinfection devices deliver an additional layer of protection and allow us to no longer wear face masks. In places where there are lots of people, similar measures should be taken.

Customer challenge

For Pomme D'Api, feeling secure while teaching without face masks was a pivotal step in adapting to the ‘new normal’. Viruses and other infections spread rapidly in schools of its age bracket, with children from 2-6 years old—and enforcing social distancing measures at such a young age is difficult. The aim was to put in place an effective system that would be easy to use and maintain, helping to keep the school virus-free without disrupting classes.

Philips UV-C air disinfection units

Efficiency, profitability, and sustainability

Two Philips UV-C air disinfection units were installed to help Pomme D’Api achieve its aim, allowing students to return to mask-free teaching without the need for social distancing or smaller class sizes, and without fear of infection. UV-C air disinfection is a proven solution that inactivates up to 95% of a room’s micro-organisms in just one hour1. It is portable, can be used while occupants are in the room, and is whisper-quiet, ensuring it does not disrupt children’s learning.

Henan Zhongke Lianchuang Test Service Co., Ltd Test conclusion: Philips UV-C Disinfection air unit (UVCA200) was operated for 60min and 120min respectively in the 80m³ test chamber, and the killing rate of natural bacteria in the air was ≥95% in each test which met the requirement of WS/T648-2019 (General hygienic requirement for air disinfecting machine)
