The aim of this nursery is to supply local vegetable growers with healthy and robust seedlings all year round, so they in turn can supply the citizens of Shanghai with delicious fresh vegetables on a daily basis.
The Faculty of Agriculture and Biology therefore decided to install more than 2400 Philips GreenPower LED production modules with three different light recipes over a total surface area of 4600 m2. As the only artificial light source, the modules provide supplementary lighting to the seedlings when insufficient natural daylight is available.
When asked why the University chose to partner with Philips, Prof. Pei Zhou of the Faculty of Agriculture and Biology explained: “Philips has a dedicated team that includes plant specialists and application engineers, who provide a very unique service and are committed to meaningful, ongoing follow-up, support that growers greatly appreciate”.
