Once a proud and thriving market town, Dudley town center has suffered from years of economic decline, with poor demographic indicators (low skills, high unemployment). This project was seen as underpinning the delivery of the Area Development Framework and supporting the much needed transformation.
The design exploited lighting opportunities in several different ways, creating ‘layers’ of urban spaces. For example, buildings were identified at each end of the Market Place that could be lit to provide ‘bookends’ to the market place facade lighting. The lighting scheme was further embellished by additional lighting ‘sprinkled around’ in the form of uplighting.
