Lighting for both nature and people

    More people means more light

Urban population is rapidly growing, and so are urban spaces. Together with the urbanization process, more light is needed. LED, due to its obvious advantages like high efficiency, the possibility to have connected lighting and much less maintenance needed, it’s becoming the preferred lighting source. Light provides safety and visibility, but the night-time emissions of poor quality LED lighting can create problems.

    What is light pollution?

Ideal public lighting illuminates only when and where its needed. Light pollution is a broad term covering various aspects associated with the wrong direction of light and its negative impact. Among others we differentiate phenomena like:

    • sky glow, which refers to the brightening of the night sky over inhabited areas

    • glare, which refers to excessive brightness that causes visual discomfort

    • light trespass, which refers to the phenomenon of light appearing where it is not intended or needed

    • clutter, which is the bright, confusing and excessive grouping of light sources

"With the lighting design the overall objective was to increase the quality of the darkness and I wanted to find the best light source to achieve that."
