Philips lighting expands global business with five new hires

Five new people join the Philips Horticulture team

    October 17, 2016

Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Philips Lighting (Euronext Amsterdam ticker: LIGHT), a global leader in lighting, today announced the hiring of five new people to strengthen its Horticulture LED Solutions business: Erik Stappers, plant specialist high wire cultivation, Stefan Hendriks, plant specialist floriculture, Arnold van Liempt, business development manager city farming, Alisa Shlyuykova, key account manager East Europe, Jason Grimmett, key account manager, US. These new hires bring new expertise and experience to support customers and projects across the globe.

Two new plant specialists, Erik Stappers for high wire cultivation and Stefan Hendriks for floriculture, broaden the expertise available to support these fast-growing areas. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree at the HAS University of Applied Science in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, Stappers worked several years at Wijnen Square Crops, a large-scale grower of bell peppers and cucumbers. Stappers looks forward to helping high wire growers further improve their results with LEDs.
Stefan Hendriks grew up in a chrysanthemum nursery and received a Master of Science in Plant Sciences at Wageningen University. He has always had a keen interest in horticulture and has broad experience working for a number of nurseries and horticultural companies. He will be focusing on optimizing results with LEDS for chrysanthemums, phalaenopsis, lisianthus and other ornamental plants.
Arnold van Liempt is the new business development manager for the city farming area. He has a degree in Strategic Management from the University of Tilburg and has an agricultural background in growing mushrooms and fruit on a small scale. He has broad experience in business development, project procurement and marketing. Van Liempt will focus on creating a competitive advantage for customers and partners of Philips Horti by working closely with players in the supply chain.
Two new key account managers join the team: Alisa Shlyuykova in East Europe and Jason Grimmett in the US.  Shlyuykova obtained a Master of Science in Plant Science at Wageningen University to enrich her knowledge of modern greenhouse technologies and of the horticulture business in general. Before joining Philips, she worked for Monsanto to develop its Eastern European market for mainly greenhouse crops and as a key account manager. Shlyuykova moved to Philips because she believes that LED is going to be the way forward. She will be developing business in the Eastern European market.
Key account manager Jason Grimmett began his career 14 years ago as a grower for Green Circle Growers, a large wholesale annual grower in Ohio, US.  He then worked as a technical sales representative for several companies, using his experience as a grower to increase their customer bases substantially.  Grimmett joined Philips Horti after a stint as head grower of a hydroponic vegetable facility. In his new role, he will develop new projects and build the Philips Horti business for customers in the US.
