Philips, a leading LED innovator for floriculture, puts rose cultivation in the spotlight at this year’s International Floriculture & Horticulture Trade Fair (IFTF) from 2-4 November 2016.
Leon Dukker, general manager of Porta Nova, one of the world’s largest producer of Red Naomi roses, shares current results from its large-scale cut rose trial with a hybrid LED/HPS lighting system. Porta Nova’s challenge was to increase light levels without increasing the heat, because high light levels make the greenhouse too warm in the spring, summer and autumn. Leon explains how LEDs have helped them increase light levels in these seasons, without increasing heat. With LEDs, Porta Nova is expecting to grow better, more consistent quality roses, higher yields and precise climate control.
