Construction of CCGS in Innovatoren nicely on schedule

On Thursday, 11 December the four collaborating partners paid a visit to the building site to see for themselves the progress being made. The group consisted of HAS director Frans van Leijden, Gus van der Feltz (Philips Global Director City Farming), Peter Korsten of Botany and Twan Beurskens, a member of the Provincial Executive of Limburg. Beurskens was impressed by the progress made at the building site.

"Wonderful to see that in less than three months there will be a fully operational growth facility here in the Innovatoren thanks to the joint efforts of all the partners. This will surely be a great boost for the campus, for the region and for Brightlands. We are making serious investments in our economic future in Limburg!”

In the CCGS all the factors that determine a plant’s growth (light, air, temperature, nutrition, water and soil/substrate) can be controlled. It is the first European project in which research into all of these factors in multilayer cultivation has been conducted on a corporate scale, thus making it unique

The CCGS will consist of a production room and two research rooms. The arrival of the CCGS marks the transformation of the former Floriade site into the knowledge landscape of the Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo. The CCGS will of course be given a catchy name and is to be officially opened on 25 February 2015.
