See how LED technology created the Aurora breathtaking lobby experience at the DIRECTV headquarters
I’m very happy
we got something
that’s very forward-looking using the technologies we implemented."
Cameron McNall, Electroland LLC
At DIRECTV’s new headquarters in California, Electroland LLC created an inspiring lobby installation. The innovative work, which utilized LED technology, may well represent the future of architectural design.
Electroland LLC, a design and architecture firm, were hired to create a unique lobby installation. Principal Cameron McNall and his team designed a 36m long, 8m tall curved structure that would incorporate interactive sound and video.
The team identified a polycarbonate plastic that could be quickly shaped into panels. Each surface was fitted with iColor Flex MX fixtures, which would be controlled by movement-tracking software. The 600 panels, which incorporated 47,000 LED nodes, were created in-house to reduce the time spent at the DIRECTV site.
The end result was stunning. The panels took the form of a gigantic curved archway that radiates with colored light. As people walk through the archway, they are treated to beautiful visuals that react to their movements.
