to these different ambiences and they appreciated them. I believe that this really does help me in controlling how the class responds and in helping them to be more efficient."
- Claire Patard, teacher at H. de Balzac school
Every school wants to give its children the best learning experience possible. This is particularly evident in Nanterre, France, where the city has made considerable investments in education. A local school, H.de Balzac, was the first in France to trial our new SchoolVision system.
The new lighting system was installed during the Halloween holidays. Upon returning to school, the 22 pupils of teacher Claire Patard immediately noticed something was different. “The light’s different Miss, it’s funny!” said one student.
It wasn’t long before everyone got to like the new lights. The SchoolVision system features four dedicated light settings that can be selected using a touchpad to optimize the classroom ambience for learning, by calming or stimulating the children if necessary. For example, the ‘Energy’ setting can be used to invigorate children in the morning and afternoon. The ‘Focus’ setting aids concentration, and ‘Calm’ brings a relaxing ambience to individual work time.
After using it for a few days, the teacher soon felt at home. “I generally use Focus, Calm and Normal”, said Claire Patard. I found that the children were sensitive to these different ambiences and they appreciated them. I believe that this really does help me in controlling how the class responds and in helping them to be more efficient. Sometimes the children themselves remind me to change the lighting if I forget. Right now, I would recommend the SchoolVision system to colleagues.”
A year-long trial of SchoolVision found that reading speed in students increased by almost 35% when the lights were in use. In addition, frequency of errors dropped by almost 45%, and hyperactive behaviour fell by 76%.
