Save the Snow - “Save the snow” is an initiative by Philips employees, their families and friends.

The 'Save the snow' team has succeded in putting 22 Philips employees and friends on the top of Africa's highest mountain - Kilimanjaro 5895m. A further 12 reached the Gilmans summit at the crater rim at 5681m. This success comes after the group annnounced it had so far raised more than 62,000 Euros for an Oxfam-Novib water irrigation project around Kilimanjaro itself.

In addition the group set up a sustainable lighting project in a Masai village in which a new solar panel lighting is now being tested. A key aim of the 'Save the snow' project is to promote a switch to energy efficient lighting.

The visit to Kenya and Tanzania took place between Dec 28 2007 and January 6th 2008.
