The centre of the Portuguese city of Porto, from Trinity Square in the north to Almeida Garrett Square and Bridge Avenue in the South, has been rejuvenated under an impressive urban regeneration scheme involving three new metro stations, redesigned street furniture, bus stops, benches and litter bins – and a switch from yellow SON lighting to the white light of Philips’ MASTER CosmoWhite and MASTER CityWhite lamps.

Simply by replacing existing SON lanterns with CosmoPolis, the Pozuelo de Alarcón town hall in Madrid has transformed the appearance of the residential suburb of Somosaguas with adequate levels of white light – and at the same time cut the energy bill as well as CO₂ emissions by no less than 47%.

The London Borough of Redbridge is benefiting from the very latest lighting technology – CosmoPolis lamps in high-performance Milewide luminaires, under the control of Philips’ Starsense Telemanagement centralized lighting control system.

As a result of a pioneering decision to upgrade all of Vechta’s 4,000 obsolete mercury vapour street lights to CosmoPolis lamps in Koffer² luminaires, energy consumption has been halved, saving around 2,000 Euros per kilometre per year. In opting for these pioneering new lighting solutions, Vechta is leading the way in Germany in efficient and environment-friendly public lighting.
