“We are really looking forward to continuing our relationship with Philips. They have proven to be extremely innovative and a valuable partner in enhancing our technology and guest experience while lowering our costs and caring for the environment.”

The Project
The completion of a well-performed renovation recently marked the 35th anniversary of the Amsterdam Marriott hotel. This hotel not only sets the standard for five-star hotels in the city – many of the hotel’s new design elements also represent new brand standards for Marriott Hotels & Resorts throughout Europe. One of the eye-catchers is the stylish new lobby in the heart of the hotel. Thanks to a contemporary design style, its concept breaks down architectural barriers and creates adaptable spaces, enabling guests to easily meet and work or casually dine in a vibrant open environment. Also the meeting space, conference facilities, hotel bar and executive lounge have a completely new look and feel.
Apart from creating a completely new appearance and ambience, the Marriott also wanted to renovate in order to be more energy-efficient. It was very important to replace the existing lighting solutions and infotainment, most of which were energy-consuming and fairly old in design. This was quite a challenge, because of the limited budget and the fact that the renovation was not allowed to disrupt the ongoing business of the hotel. Besides that, raum concept Munich, responsible for the interior design and architectural aspects, had to meet all the creative demands of the hotel and coordinate the complex construction process with all stakeholders from the renovation team.

The Solution
The power-hungry halogen lamps and dichroic spotlights were replaced by a mixture of the newest lighting solutions such as LuxSpace and low-investment products such as Fugato, all from Philips Lighting. “The products of the LuxSpace and Spot LED families are very popular with the end-consumer, especially because they are available in different color temperatures,” says Harry Asbeck, project leader from raum concept. “Apart from that, the mixture of cold-white and warm-white solutions in the lobby creates magnificent accents. An additional advantage was the smooth cooperation with Philips. Requests were answered almost right away and delivery times for repeat orders were very short.”
