Better data for smarter cities

How do we use and apply data for improved urban planning?

Until now, the built environment soundscape has been poorly understood. We need more information to build better, smarter cities and one way to collect that data is through a city’s lighting infrastructure.


Dietmar Offenhuber, Assistant Professor at Northeastern University, explains that data sets collected via street lighting can be used to inform the urban planning process by more accurately modelling the effect of certain variables on public health and comfort.
