Improving connectivity with smart poles in San Jose

Rapidly increasing demand for mobile and broadband connectivity is encouraging cites to think about how to seamlessly integrate the needed technology into the existing infrastructure.

Philips and Ericsson, together with the city of San Jose, have collaborated on a project to pilot a seamless solution. Philips smart poles are equipped with small cell LTE technology from Ericsson, enabling 4G/LTE connectivity. This lets city authorities control street lighting systems wirelessly to meet changing resident needs and urban conditions. And citizens benefit from improved mobile network coverage for data communications and enhanced safety with brighter, well-lit streets.
