    A bright, new ambiance

Situated on the Warta River, in west-central Poland, Poznań is one of the oldest and largest cities in the country. Today, Poznań is one of the largest Polish centers of trade, industry, technology, education, tourism, and culture.

In 2010, TriGanit Development invested with the city of Poznań to revitalize and renew the main railway station, adding a bus terminal, a park and ride facility with 1,500 parking spots, and Poznań Shopping Mall. The area of the entire facility, called Poznań City Center, is nearly 58,000 m2 (190,300 sq ft).

TriGanit commissioned an eye-catching and dynamic lighting system for the Poznań City Center to brand it and establish the mall as a high-end shopping center. The investors wanted to partner with a single lighting company that could provide comprehensive LED lighting solutions and control systems for both the interior and the exterior of the building. TriGanit selected Signify Poland for the project because of its versatile and technologically advanced products.

The investors wanted a dynamic exterior lighting system for Poznań Shopping Mall that would distinguish it from other malls in the area and attract potential customers. TriGanit also envisioned an interior lighting solution that would set an inviting mood within the mall, encouraging people to spend time shopping and relaxing in restaurants and cafes.

Signify Poland created a coordinated control system for the Center by linking three separate installations within and outside the building, using a Light System Manager controller from Color Kinetics. To illuminate the building's north façade, a rounded structure constructed of diamond-shaped glass panels set into a crisscrossed metal frame, fourteen columns were installed about 15.2 m (50 ft) away from the façade of the building. The installation team mounted four Color Kinetics ColorReach Compact Powercore luminaires (now specified with ReachElite), positioned at various angles, onto each of the columns to evenly project light onto the 160 m (525 ft) long wall.

The east façade is illuminated with color-changing Vaya Linear Color luminaires, which were installed in the overhang of recessed lines wrapping around the façade, aimed down, and covered with a layer of frosted glass. The luminaires create stripes of dynamic color and subtle wall-washing accents around the entrance to the mall. Vaya Cove Color luminaires were installed in recessed lines in the ceiling inside the mall, giving management the ability to control the atmosphere throughout the mall.

Light System Manager, which can handle up to 15,000 individual LED light points, controls the more than 14,000 RGB luminaires used in the installation.

The control system can create links between events held within the building and the exterior illumination. The east and north façades can be coordinated to display light shows when special events are taking place within the shopping center to match the season of the year or for marketing purposes.

The LED lighting system has significantly reduced the energy costs and has simplified the maintenance of the entire lighting network. The dynamic lighting design attracts both residents of Poznań and travelers passing through the train station, putting the mall on par with similar shopping centers throughout Europe.

"The co-operation with Signify met top level of service standards and gave us a lot of satisfaction. The team spared no effort to provide us with the most innovative solution and to complete the work in time," said Stefan Cuvin, TriGanit Project Manager.

EuropaProperty recognized the Poznań City Center at their third annual CEE Green Building/City Awards in two categories — Mixed-Use Project of the Year and Retail Project of the Year — for its innovative architectural and lighting design.
