Philips offers complete and integral solutions for any situation...
The sports complex "La Caja Mágica" (Magic Box), which is dedicated to tennis, is a multifunctional center located in the Manzanares Parque Lineal on a 17-hectare site containing large parks, lakes and garden areas. The "Magic Box", or "Boîte Magique" in French, was named by its creator, the architect Dominique Perrault.
In fact it is a huge "recipient" that has three outdoor/indoor tennis stadiums for 20,000 spectators (12,000, 5,000 and 3,000 respectively), with a huge exterior cover creating a unit. Its retractable roof measures 103 m x 73 m and takes just 15 minutes to open or close, depending on weather conditions.
Completing the tennis complex are sixteen outdoor tennis courts for training, five indoor courts, each with a capacity of 350 spectators, an indoor swimming-pool, the headquarters of the Spanish Federation of Tennis in Madrid, a club-house, a press center, VIP areas, restaurants, etc.
The design and distribution of this complex make it possible to hold a wide variety of events besides sports, such as presentations, shows or conventions.
Philips’ contribution consists of a complete turnkey project for the supply, installation and future maintenance of eight giant Vidiwall
DA 12-2000 S and VidiwalltmDA 12-5000 S displays based on LED technology.
These displays are fitted with the latest Philips LED technology for video. Four displays, measuring some 20 m2 (6.15 m x 3.45 m), have been installed in the main stadium, which is named after Manuel Santana; the other displays, measuring 15 m2 (5.37 m x 2.88 m), have been installed in each of the adjoining stadiums (two per stadium). To complement this, two professional 42-inch Philips LCD screens will be installed in all the bars in the complex so that independent TV and audio can be shown.
Philips is also to equip the VIP areas, players’ rooms and catering areas with its highest range of televisions, incorporating the exclusive Aurea and Ambilight technologies. This technology considerably improves the overall visual experience as it generates an ambient light to complement the colors and light intensity of the image on the screen; it makes for more relaxed visualization and improves the details perceived in the image.
It is important to point out that Philips will provide this tennis complex with the best medical safety measures for the spectators, with four Philips Heart Start defibrillators included in the project.
More than 500,000 Philips Heart Start defibrillators have been installed worldwide. 44% of Fortune 100 companies, 8 out of 10 of the leading airlines and 43 professional sports clubs trust Philips Heart Start defibrillators. These new defibrillation programs are an efficient and responsible way of giving the right care to employees, assistants and customers.
Last but not least, the latest technology in sports lighting has been used to light the tennis courts (new ArenaVision system) while the surrounding areas of the complex have been illuminated with a number of other floodlights.
To light the facades, an innovative LED solution has been developed that enhances the clearly defined lines of the building at night.
"The added value from Philips was in having a unique partner for the integration of LED screens, LCDs, lighting and defibrillators, as well as their corporate sustainability focus."
