Philips set to accelerate home LED market with the stunning Ledino range

Stylish LED luminaires recognized with prestigious Lights of the Future award at Light+Building 2008

Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) today announced the introduction of a stunning range of LED-based products that are set to accelerate consumer demand for LEDs in the home.  The sleek Ledino range, unveiled today at the Light+Building trade fair in Frankfurt, is the first of an extensive range of LEDinaires that will help consumers harness the crisp, bright white light of LEDs to create a stylish and contemporary environment in their homes.

The introduction of the Ledino range follows the acquisition of PLI in 2006 and this range is the first step into the solid state lighting home luminaire market. It reinforced Philips leadership position in solid state lighting, in particular for the home through the range of stylish designed, energy-efficient LED luminaires.

The Ledino range offers some undeniable breakthroughs in the field of (LED) lighting for the consumer market. The Ledino signature LED module boasts a light output that rivals well known conventional lightsources as the G9 40W and GU10 50W halogen bulbs while maintaining an operational life span of up to 20 years.  In addition a large part of the Ledino range is dimmable,.

Allard Bijlsma, CEO Philips Consumer Luminaires, said: “Increasingly, consumers are looking for modern lighting solutions that complement the stylish contemporary environments they are creating in their homes.  With the Ledino range, we are helping consumers harness the many unique advantages of the new generation of LEDs – crisp bright light, high energy efficiency compared to incandescent lamps, and no need for replacement - via a broad collection of appealing designs.”

Based on Philips Lumileds Luxeon Rebel PowerLEDs, the Ledino products will be the first of an extensive range of LED based applications that Philips will introduce for use in the home.  Key product introductions include the stylish Ledino pendants and the beautiful Ledino table lamp in chrome (pictured).

The stylish design and innovative approach of the Ledino range has been recognized by the Light+Building managing board as one of the leading design innovations at the 2008 event and honored one of the new desklamps with the prestigious Lights of the Future award.

“The domestic market for LED applications is set to explode as consumers look for new, exciting ways to light their homes and the Ledino range of luminaires all provide an attractive bright light that suits today’s modern interiors.  Given our leadership in the fast emerging LED market, Philips is spearheading the introduction of stylish LED based lighting solutions to address this fast growing consumer demand,” added Bijlsma.

The full Ledino range will be available in Belgium, Germany, France, Spain and The Netherlands from September 2008 with further roll-out to other countries and regions to follow.  Prices start at € 69,- .
