Beijing, China – Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has signed an agreement with Beijing Onyx Technology Co. Limited to work together in applying ultraviolet (UV) lighting in the provision of safe, clean drinking and waste water in China.
UV lighting is becoming increasingly attractive for purification by water authorities, as it is proving to be a highly effective and efficient means of combating water-borne bacteria, without requiring the use of chlorine. UV lamps are also highly reliable, ensuring low operational and maintenance costs while maintaining consistent performance.
Under the agreement, Philips will apply its UV lamp-based water purification capabilities with Onyx, a pioneer of water treatment in the Chinese environmental protection industry. Onyx has today more than 100 municipal water purification projects in 25 provinces, with activities covering more than half the country.
The two companies will now work closely together on developing innovative water purification solutions to accelerate further the use of UV lighting in this field. It is expected that the collaboration will leverage the latest techniques in UV purification in order to optimize performance and reliability, while driving the environmental benefits of the technology.
