Air purification in hospitals

In hospitals a lot of people mix together, and they all bring bacteria and viruses with them. These bacteria and viruses pose a serious health threat, especially because many people in hospitals have a suppressed immune system.

Infections originating in hospitals affect around 10% of patients during their stay. And there is increasing evidence that up to 20% of these infections, like the flu, tuberculosis, pneumonia and MRSA, is transmitted via the air - at a huge price, both in terms of human life and financial costs.

Philips UV purification lamps have the power to disinfect air and in this way help protect against airborne infections and diseases.

Presently, there are five basic methods of air purification using UV lamps:

  • In ceiling or wall-mounted luminaires
  • In upwards-facing reflectors for upper-air irradiation
  • In down-facing reflectors for irradiation of the floor zone
  • In air ducts, sometimes in combination with special dust filters
  • In stand-alone air cleaners with a simple filter
