Starsense

System Architecture

Starsense System Architecture
The new Starsense is based on the LonWorks® protocol over power line. This is an open protocol which is known to work in outdoor lighting telemanagement solutions and has been widely adopted in the market.

This allows the customer to choose between different solutions from a variety of vendors. Starsense implements the most advanced repeating technology, enabling other light points to  repeat commands when necessary, thereby ensuring that all commands will reach their destination even in adverse communication conditions.

The Starsense system provides different ways to interface with other asset management systems or 3rd party applications giving customers the freedom to choose their front end.

Starsense Outdoor Luminaire Controller

Outdoor Luminaire Controller (OLC)

The Outdoor Luminaire Controller switches and dims the lamp and detects lamp failures.
Communicates to the Segment Controller via a power line and uses a 1-10 V dimming signal to interface with the electronic ballast and a relay to switch it on and off.
The OLC has a digital input designed to connect to a photocell, enabling local on/off switching.
The unit can be either built into the luminaire or mounted in the base of the pole.

Starsense Segment Controller

Segment Controller (SC)

The Segment Controller controls a number of OLCs connected to the same power grid and gathers information from them to be sent, when required, to the remote PC via Internet, typically through GPRS. The SC can be used to interface with other devices in the cabinet, such as traffic counters or weather sensors. The SC is normally located in a nearby feeder pillar.

The SC integrates the powerful and easy-to-use Starsense Configurator Web-based software, which simplifies system commissioning and configuration.

With the Starsense Configurator you can completely configure and test your light points and get them up and running.

Starsense Supervisor Software

Starsense Supervisor Software

For monitoring and managing the data from the SCs. It collects, aggregates and filters data before storing it in a central database. Provides facility managers with web applications for "one-click" data analysis in order to help them reduce maintenance costs and energy consumption and improve the lighting service to citizens. The Starsense Supervisor transforms data with the aim of extracting useful information and facilitating conclusions. Energy analysis, problem detection, problem location, lamp lifetime forecast and many other features are just one click away.
