City Design – Stylish lighting for urban settings

Based in Ormelle, Italy, City Design is a highly respected brand in the urban furniture market. Next year, the company celebrates 25 years of innovative products and installation projects. In this time, they have contributed to numerous town redesigns as well as promoting the creativity of new Italian and international designers.

City Design’s portfolio has always included a variety of lighting products. It used LED lighting as part of the tramway network infrastructure in Padova. The project incorporated an environmental awareness campaign highlighting the 70% reduction in energy consumption compared to standard neon lighting, a factor in accordance to which City Design developed some solar-powered bus stops as part of the project..

Other stand-out projects include the Koper waterfront, Slovenia – a great example of the company’s design talent – and the Tangenziale (highway) installation in Mestre, near Venice, Italy. These projects are representative of the company’s brand as a mark of quality.

“We consider the use of the EnabLED trademark as part of our brand positioning” said Fiorenzo Da Ros, City Design President. “City design highly values cooperation with Philips Lighting as it has been instrumental in achieving top quality lighting results. Lately, this cooperation was expanded by adhering to the Licensing Program, and we found the interaction with the licensing professionals positive and fruitful”

City Design is currently focusing on an R&D plan for private lighting products. “We are constantly improving and expanding our product range to offer top quality products and performance without compromise. Using the Philips Lighting innovations is a central part of our strategy,” said Fiorenzo Da Ros.

Looking ahead, the company believes that while design will remain important, the street lighting market will be increasingly oriented towards saving energy through centralised control and on decreasing light pollution. These trends will continue over the coming five years, resulting in the complete update of our global street lighting infrastructures.
