16 February 2009. Philips has announced the development of a new solar powered reading light, which allows people to read books and write in the dark. This light – called ‘My reading light’, should help boost the education sector in Africa and allow a new generation of school children to continue with their homework after the sundown.'

Leading NGO Ghana: 'New Philips lighting products will improve health and safety'

16 February 2009. Philips and the leading Ghanaian NGO KITE have teamed up to test and develop the introduction of a new generation low-cost sustainable lighting products in Ghana. This is part of the SESA Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement between Philips and the Dutch government relating to 10 sub-Saharan Africa countries.

Dutch goverment and Philips sign partnership agreement
